When most of us think of the best actors in the world, we tend to think of people who have a ton of experience, or who studied at prestigious schools in order to perfect their craft. But sometimes, the best performances actually come from people who aren’t actors at all… or at least they weren’t actors, before the right role came along! There are so many examples of incredible performances that were given by non-actors, and many of them landed right in the middle of Oscar season! Take Dave Bautista, a former WWE and MMA fighter who gave up a thriving career to take a shot at acting, and quickly became Drax, the fan-favourite character in Guardians of the Galaxy! Or Hunter Schafer, who started out as a model, artist, and LGBTQ activist before landing the role of Jules in Euphoria. Lenny Kravitz chose carefully before ending up on the big screen in The Hunger Games, and Jennifer Lawrence herself had been a model before she fought her way into Winter’s Bone! Harry Styles had a lot to prove when he was cast in Dunkirk, and clearly it worked because his pop star persona totally disappeared into the role. And of course, the incredible Jennifer Hudson actually came in seventh on American Idol, before turning around two years later and winning an Oscar for her role in Dreamgirls! All of these amazing stars and so many more didn’t start out as actors, but quickly proved that you can’t beat raw talent.
