Billy Idol - The Making of ‘Eyes Without A Face’ (Vevo Footnotes)

Billy Idol says he was trying to write an "anti-love song" with his 1984 smash. It was the Brit singer's first top-10 hit in the US, part of his 'Rebel Yell' album. "It's almost a murder song...like a serial killer," he says in our Footnotes interview. With the camera closing in on Idol's signature snarl, the video took on an eerie vibe. Director David Mallet brought a ghostly aura to the piece. A silent movie fan, the singer says it was titles such as 'The Black Cat,' a 1934 fright that featured Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi, that help set the tone for "Eyes Without A Face" and his other hit, "White Wedding." Lots to learn as Idol's celebrates its 40th anniversary.
