Chloe Moriondo - Strawberry Blonde. An exclusive performance for Vevo DSCVR, the channel for the best in new music.
One of the best things about the current pop punk revival is hearing and seeing the inventive ways these new, mostly-Gen Z artists are reimagining the beloved genre. Chloe Moriondo was born in 2002, the same year that Good Charlotte’s platinum, pop radio-invading ‘The Young and the Hopeless’ arrived on Hot Topic shelves. A lot has changed in pop punk and its subgenres over two decades; But young listeners’ connection with all the angst, sadness and confusion that comes with growing up — and the catharsis of a community that openly shares those emotions with one another — has held strong. Long time fans of Moriondo have watched the singer-songwriter-instrumentalist grow up in front of them. This Hayley Williams megafan started posting covers on YouTube when she was 14ish. Over time, her vibe has moved from cute to cunning. That her 2018 debut album was titled “Rabbit Hearted” and this year’s sophomore album is titled “Blood Bunny” serves as a pretty good reflection of her evolution. “This is my first big kid album,” says the now openly queer and self-assured 18-year-old. Like Paramore records, “Blood Bunny” is as much beautifully lush as it is distorted and speaker blasting. Moriondo’s impressive voice and deft guitar playing carried these “I Want To Be With You” and “Strawberry Blonde” performances. Without the band, one could say these are technically stripped down performances. Without the band, one could say these are stripped down performances, but they'll still blast you right back into your seat.
