1997's "Ultra" was the first album following the 1995 departure of Alan Wilder. Alan had long shaped the sound of the band, so Dave, Martin and Fletch had to produce an album putting their own mark on it. It would take some time for the DM sound to come into its own, but this effort is still pretty good. "Barrel of A Gun" deals with Dave's near death due to a drug overdose in 1996.
