Flo Milli - Not Friendly. An exclusive live performance for Vevo DSCVR ARTISTS TO WATCH 2021, an annual series highlighting those that are shaping the future of music.
We’ve been proving our love for Flo Milli all year. Back at the start of 2020, the Alabama rapper put her IDGAF swag on full display in our Brooklyn studio with dope updates of “My Attitude” and “In the Party.” The latter track is one of the 12 that form her debut EP. The signature brashness that critics and fans love marks its title, 'Ho, why is you here?' But it wasn’t too long ago that the MC wasn't so full of herself. She's said that right before her come up she was “depressed as fuck, no job, no car." Making beats was her only outlet. One day last spring, she flipped on a beat and spit out a searing hook; “Beef FloMix” quickly went viral on TikTok, and that’s when Milli’s momentum shifted into overdrive. Part of her music boasts a Young Thug influence mixed with doses of Erykah Badu and Jill Scott - the latter courtesy of Flo’s mom’s R&B tastes. And don't forget her respect for initial inspiration, Nicki Minaj. In all of her songs Flo Milli paints a world where her haters get smoked like the weed she loves to roll. That confidence was part of the reason we invited her into the Artists to Watch 2021 class. Watch “Not Friendly” and “19.” You’ll immediately know what the fuss is all about.
