Episode 46:
"Fly Away" was the fourth single from the fifth studio album, 5, released in 1998 by Lenny Kravitz. Conceived from an amplifier test jam, "Fly Away" was an afterthought, sent to the label well after the bulk of the tracks for the album. In a fortuitous decision, Virgin added the track to the album, which eventually netted Kravitz the 1999 Grammy for Best Male Rock Performance.

This song, even though not high on my normal listening list, is an important one for me. It was a virtual tie along with Steve Miller's, "Rock'n Me", as the first full song I learned on guitar. Note some production magic by Richard, including the long, half note delays and Lo-Fi vocals in certain spots.

One Take Weekly aims to present a sneak peek inside a studio recording session, each track performed and filmed in one take - imperfections & all. No overdubs, NO AUTOTUNE, and no trick-photography! (Just good mixing...& my nearly inept video editing skills) What you see is what you hear - CE.
