Give Peace A Chance - Peace Choir (video and making of) + The War Song - Culture Club

Since the beginning of time, humanity has lived with wars, usually due to greed or religious intolerance. We, human beings, are not perfect and our saddest, cruelest and darkest side leads to crimes against humanity itself, in the form of war between people.

One of these wars took place in 1991, between Iraq and international coalition forces led by the United States.

As a form of protest and appeal for the war not to happen, a group of artists got together, forming the Peace Choir, and re-recorded John Lennon's classic, Give Peace A Chance, with additional contemporary lyrics.

Among these artists were big names such as Cyndi Lauper, Yoko Ono, Sean Ono Lennon, Little Richard, Lenny Kravitz, L. L. Cool J', Tom Petty, Iggy Pop, Run DMC, Teena Marie, Alannah Myles, Dave Stewart, Peter Gabriel , Bruce Hornsby, Sebastian Bach, Terence Trent D'Arby, Flea, Al Jarreau, M.C. Hammer, Michael McDonald, Bonnie Raitt, Adam Ant, Amina, Ofra Haza, among others.

The Gulf War was yet another human stupidity that claimed the lives of thousands of people who had no option but to be victims of that stupidity.

We currently have other wars going on, the war in Ukraine and the war between Israel and Palestine, taking the lives of innocent people due to the greed, intolerance and ignorance of those with power and weapons.

The great worldwide appeal is for a Cease Fire, so that innocent lives do not continue to be taken and so many other people, who have nothing to do with the cruel ideal of war, are not injured and their destinies are not drastically affected.

Perhaps it is time to pay attention to this appeal against war, which unfortunately remains current.

As the classic The War Song, by Culture Club, led by the incredible Boy George, says, “War is stupid”, so at the end of the making of the video for Give Peace A Chance, there are two performances of The War Song, with the Culture Club, to reinforce the message.

Desde o início dos tempos a humanidade convive com guerras, geralmente por ganância ou intolerância religiosa. Nós, seres humanos, não somos perfeitos e o nosso lado mais triste, cruel e sombrio levam a crimes contra a própria humanidade, em forma de guerra entre os povos.

A guerra do Golfo foi mais uma estupidez humana que ceifou a vida de milhares de pessoas que não tiveram opção a não ser serem vítimas daquela estupidez.

Atualmente temos outras guerras acontecendo, a guerra da Ucrânia e a guerra entre Israel e a Palestina, ceifando a vida de inocentes pela ganância, intolerância e ignorância de quem detém poder e armas.

O grande apelo mundial é pelo Cessar Fogo, para que as vidas de inocentes não continuem sendo tiradas e tantas outras pessoas, que nada tem a ver com o ideal cruel da guerra, não sejam feridas e tenham seus destinos drasticamente afetados.

Talvez seja o momento para prestarmos atenção nesse apelo contra a guerra, que infelizmente continua atual.
