Height doesn’t usually mean a big deal in an artist’s bio, so there’s something charming about the fact that Griff tells her Spotify listeners that she’s 5’3” right off the bat. Impact-wise the singer behind “Good Stuff” looms a bit larger than her physical stature. You can tell from far away that the Jamaican/Chinese singer who grew up in a London suburb brings a unique eloquence to the table in songs such as “Black Hole.” That track is a bubbly lament that finds the 20-year-old pianist and guitarist fretting over the scars left by a breakup. “I tried to pray/I bruised my knees.” The singer’s way with words and hooks speaks for itself, but until a couple years ago, when she began taking music more seriously, she says she believed that a career as a performer was a bit of a dream; if it never blossomed, heading to university would be fine. With the arrival of her ‘One Foot In Front Of Another’ album and the critical acclaim in its wake, it’s a dream come true. Our Dscvr artist had no problem convincing us of her skills when she hit our London studio. These performances of “Black Hole” and “One Foot In Front Of The Other” speak for themselves. Her studies are taking her in a different direction.
