Introducing J Noa | Vevo DSCVR

J Noa se describe a sí misma como una mujer apoteósica o, en jerga dominicana, ella es “la para”. Ambas palabras tienen un significado común: simplemente, la rapera dominicana es lo máximo, y ahora nos toca a nosotros saber qué esconde detrás del micrófono. Con tan sólo 17 años, J Noa dispara rimas cómo si fueran una metralleta, contando las historias de su barrio desde un lente de conciencia política y con ímpetu de enseñarle al mundo la alegría, el dolor, y el talento absoluto de la juventud en la República Dominicana. El título de “La Hija del Rap” no es regalado y la oriunda del barrio de San Cristóbal en Santo Domingo lo lleva con mucha seriedad. “Me siento como que vine a revivir el rap”, le dijo la cantante a la revista Rolling Stone. “Para mí, la mayoría de los raperos deben ser más intencionales con lo que escriben y recitan. ¿Para qué les sirve el rap o por qué se consideran raperos si no viven la realidad de la cual rapean”. Su primer EP ‘Autodidacta’ le ganó el respaldo de titanes en la escena de hip hop latinoamericano como Residente, Boza y Trueno, la llevó hasta el Tiny Desk de NPR y a rapear freestyle en las calles de Nueva York frente a la leyenda D.M.C. del grupo Run D.M.C. J Noa vino a poner al mundo de cabeza y no tiene planes de parar. La prodigio del rap dominicano pasó por nuestro estudio en Brooklyn para romper el escenario de DSCVR cantando “Una Carta” y “Paranoia”.

J Noa describes herself as a woman of quintessential proportions –a goddess, or in Dominican slang, she is “la para.” All of these terms have one definition in common: the Dominican rapper is everything. Now we get a chance to see what talent hides behind the microphone. Only 17 years old, the rapper shoots rhymes at machine gun speed. In a blur, she recounts the tales that form the fabric of her neighborhood, all within a socially conscious lens that reveals the joy, pain, resilience, and absolute talent of Dominican Republic’s youth. The title “La Hija del Rap” was not a gift, and the Santo Domingo native wears the title with gravitas. “I feel like I came to revive rap,” she tells Rolling Stone. “To me, rappers should be intentional about what they write, about what they recite. Otherwise, why would rap serve them, or why would they be considered rappers if they don’t live the reality of what they’re rapping about?” Her first EP ‘Autodidacta’ won her major accolades from the Latin American hip-hop community, including praise from titans like Residente, Trueno and Boza. It also took her to one of the premiere indie stages, NPR’s Tiny Desk, while also netting her an audience with rap legend D.M.C. from Run D.M.C. J Noa came to turn the world upside down and she has no plans of stopping. The Dominican rap prodigy came to our studio in Brooklyn to tear the DSCVR stage apart with “Una Carta” and “Paranoia.”
