It was 1989 at the MTV Video Music Awards Mötley Crüe and Guns N’ Roses went head to head. The feud ignited when Guns N’ Roses guitarist Izzy Stradlin allegedly assaulted Neil’s wife at a Los Angeles club. Mötley Crüe was scheduled to present the award for Best Metal Video to G N’R. What ended up actually happening was bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Steven Adler were the only two that accepted the award. Later that evening, Neil threw a punch at Stradlin. Security got involved and ended it between the two rock stars.
Axl Rose subsequently challenged Neil to a fight, telling MTV’s Kurt Loder in an interview quote, “Anytime he wants it. Atlantic City, I don’t care. We’ll put money on it.”
While Neil publicly embraced the challenge, nothing happened afterward.
