The first time I heard this song was when I bought the Appetite for Destruction CD at Half Price Books. I would take the cds home, and rip them to my computer and put them on my ipod so I could listen to them whenever I wanted. I picked up the album because it had paradise city and sweet child o' mine on it and so I thought I'd listen to the rest of it. I'm sure glad that I did.
While looking at live videos to help with tabbing, I ran across the video of Sebastian Bach singing with Axl and the band and that was really cool
Note: most videos weren't very helpful because camera focused on Slash and Axl
The bass rhythm is the hardest part. It's pretty easy to hear the notes, but the exact rhythm is buried in the mix.
I'm tabbing out just what I can hear.

This video is eq'd so you can really hear Duff. It's basically an Isolated Bass track, but listening closely, it doesn't sound like it's the same bass part as on the original track. It's a bit more complex. I'm okay with playing that, but it just doesn't sound like what is there. It is the exact same length though, so it could possibly be the original, but it doesn't sound like it, or you can't really hear it.

1:05 you can see Duff's positioning is around the 6 and 9th frets
1:51 he uses 5 and 7 in the chorus
3:47 you can see the last chorus well
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYeCrAKzhfo
0:24 you can see Duff's slide and play in the same position as the above videos
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYTIyRzJI2E
0:18 you can see for the intro Duff is higher up than the other videos
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLvEXXKPVRo
0:36 this one too. I think he switched hand positioning there later on because it fits nicely in a box.
2:02 (and a bit earlier) you can see duff moving up on the fretboard instead of across for most things he could be playing open. This confirms the other video (two below this one)
2:12 the rising 8ths don't use the open strings
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZqOT4x4gTI
0:39 you can see duff slide with the guitars
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KlD9T8zMYk
2:19 you can see hand positioning in the solo (by 5/7 instead of 2 on the a, but slides down for 2 and 0 on the E)
Thanks for watching! Enjoy :)
