Nakamura checkmated Erigaisi - GM Hikaru Mating Patterns Series (Part 8)

GMHikaru checkmates GM Arjun Erigaisi from India! It was a sudden death in the middlegame. Such an interesting kind of defeat doesn't happen very often! How to checkmate a talented Grandmaster like Erigaisi? (He was GM at 14 years of age!) Answer: Playing some nice and clever blitz chess and of course being better at chess tactics than your opponent! And some luck doesn't hurt too :)
This cool game took place in an online match tournament on ChessCom. I am sure that the Indian Pro was very surprised...
Both strong chess players are also top players in blitz chess and rapid chess. You have to have a quick hand and brain and often also a poker face.
Checkmate ends the game instantly according to the chess rules and a finish like this is always exciting stuff, especially at this super high level.
Sometimes such "accidents" are created by successful traps in chess, and sometimes they are beautiful and fantastic checkmate combinations.
Of course GM Arjun from India was a little bit shocked by the sudden loss of his King...
