Nous Alpha is Christopher Bono (Ghost Against Ghost, NOUS) and Gareth Jones (Depeche Mode, Grizzly Bear, Spiritual Friendship).

On the track, Nous Alpha share:
"This track is derived from a moment in the forest when Gareth wandered off to the trail’s edge and began randomly chanting a list of virtues into the valley. Christopher soon joined him in a call and response that became the central sample of this track. At first, we were self-conscious about using classical virtues as the central theme of the track. It was such a pure and personally spiritual moment in the forest, but we were quite judgmental about whether it was “cool” enough to use in a Nous Alpha track.

After returning to the studio, we experimented with the sample by dropping the pitch a bit and matching it with some 90’s hip-hop inspired basslines and keyboard stabs. Once we encouraged each other’s ideas and started to build a piece around the virtues sample the track’s true nature became self-evident. It was a moment without falsehood.

In the B section, you can hear a series of news samples that ends with "What has happened?" Particularly in 2020 with US civil unrest, COVID and conspiracy theories everywhere, the track began to feel like a socio-political statement, with our list of Virtues representing an important aspect of the ethics we need to ground our society in. Virtues are like the antidote to the craziness of our planet. As human beings and as artists, we need to re-open our hearts and embrace these “trite” statements now."

A WALK IN THE WOODS is the anticipated follow up to their 2019 debut, Without Falsehood. A Walk In The Woods is a collaboration with the natural world through the lens of modern music technology, with natural elements created by performing with found objects in the dense woods of the nearby Catskill Mountains and around the studio. The duo created ‘foraged sounds’ using stones and rocks, sampling trees and birds and other natural sounds - note the sounds of a tranquil pond and the distinctive mechanical sounds of a bicycle.

While meditative walks in the woods provided the impetus for the tracks, the trees surrounding the studio also became a place for spiritual rejuvenation. The result of their ritualistic approach to the project is a body of work steeped in harmony and balance – of beauty and melancholy, of technology and nature, signaling two like-minded spiritual beings in creative lockstep with each other. Over the two weeks, meditation, introspection and connection with nature embodied A Walk In The Woods.
