Samantha Cox on What Makes Olivia Noelle Special | Vevo DSCVR Interview. Vevo DSCVR, the channel for the best in new music.
Brooklyn singer Olivia Noelle has a brash side - that kinda makes sense, right? New Yorkers are known for shooting from the hip. Her instantly impressive "Made of Gold" was inspired by a moment of self-empowerment when she says she realized she was "dope af" and didn't need anyone else validating that fact. And she's right. Craft and confidence are signatures of Noelle's performance code. Though she's earned some dap for a killer version of OutKast's "Hey Ya!," she writes her own songs and puts a smidge of funkiness on everything she does. She really gets into the zone in our DSCVR performance of "Fck Around & Fall In Luv," which is built solely on guitar and voice. It's from her 'If Boys Could Cry' EP, and its paired-down approach not only reveals the kind of focus Noelle has at her grasp, and it makes us want to hear lots more from her. In our companion interview piece she says that whenever she want to solve a problem or break a habit, the first step is "writing a song about it." Music as a tool for change. Industry vet and Noelle fan Samantha Cox chimes in as well. "Olivia has a fire, not only as an artist but as a songwriter. The day I met her I knew she was special." Hear more from both women in our exclusive profile.
