1. SOUNDBITE (English) Heath Ledger:
"I don't know, there was no heavy research, I was actually just enjoying my time back in Australia, Michelle and I just found out that she was pregnant so we were pretty excited about that and I mean I did a little bit of research in the drug world of Sydney, I went and met this gentleman who's been a junkie for 30 years and still is, and talked to him, filmed him and so he gave us a lot of information on how to inject and where to inject and the sensations of it and the ups and the downs and the moods, all those sorts of things."

"I think I did more crying off camera, knowing that I had my daughter growing inside my girl, it was definitely uncomfortable holding a prosthetic baby and looking at it, all bloody, it wasn't very nice."

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Heath Ledger:
"it's a false sense of success purely because the success really is completing the film and completing the story, and I think it's more a false sense of failure than I false sense of success, because the people who get awarded should be awarded and the people who get nominated it's an honour to be nominated and it's another form of success; but the people who don't get nominated suddenly feel like their performances and what they put in through the year is a failure and that's false, because it's fabricated and it's designed by an industry and they're opinions too, they're not facts. But it's a real honour to be nominated, it really is, I'm grateful for it and I'm very excited. Michelle my girl is nominated as well, it's kind of a very nice date to be going on."

LEDGER ON THE EDGE IN CANDY
Fresh from the challenge and the triumph of 'Brokeback Mountain,' Heath Ledger is once again going to the margins of society, this time as a drug addict in the Australian movie, 'Candy.'
The title character of the film Candy (Abbie Cornish) is a talented young painter and Dan (Heath Ledger) a promising occasional poet. Both are addicted to heroin. When they meet it's love at first sight. In the beginning, it feels as if they have found paradise.
But before long, when they've nothing left to sell, Candy turns to prostitution. Dan doesn't stop her. Imperceptibly, they've overstepped the mark and put their paradise behind them.
In the running for Berlin's Golden Bear prize, Candy once again shows Ledger to be far more than the pretty boy actor who emerged in 1999 in light-weight pieces such as 'A Knight's Tale.'
His career success has been matched by a personal happiness. He met and fell in love with actress Michelle Williams while making 'Brokeback Mountain,' and the couple have recently had a baby girl.
