Sody - hold it all together. An exclusive performance for Vevo DSCVR, the channel for the best in new music.
We first caught up with Sody last summer, in the middle of lockdown. Armed with only a keyboard, a microphone, and her stunning voice (plus some over-the-phone help from our production team on where to put the cameras), the London-bred singer/songwriter managed to fight away the craziness of the outside world, if only for a moment. At the time of her “Charlotte” and “Bedroom Ceiling” performances, we pointed to her adoration of Ed Sheeran as a symptom of her own pop aspirations. “Her own discography,” we wrote, “displays preference towards a songwriting style steeped in emotion and honesty.” Her love of pop drives her to be a voice of empathy and realness within the genre. Fans have responded - recently “What We Had” surpassed the 8-figure streaming mark on Spotify, while her official “Bedroom Ceiling” vid also recently passed a million views. ‘real growth takes time’ is the title of Sody’s latest EP; It’s also a lyric in the project-opening track, “butterfly.” Less instrumentally sparse than her ‘I’m Sorry, I’m Not Sorry’ EP from 2020, ‘real growth’ is still relatively delicate from a production standpoint. Commanding the camera, Sody’s “butterfly” and “hold it all together” performances made us feel great about the decision to have her back a second time around.
