1987 is now recognized as one of the greatest years in the history of popular music. So many spectacular album were released in the those 12 months. Let’s take a trip through the year… U2 the Joshua Tree, Anthrax Among the Living, The Smiths Louder than Bombs, and Prince Sign o The times all came out in March. Whitesanke self titled, Carly Simon Coming Around Again, Fleetwood Mac Tango in the Night , Public Enemy Yo Bum Rush the Show in April, The Cure Kiss me Kiss me Kiss me, Motley Crue Girls Girls Girls, Richard Marx debut alll came out in May, Were not even halfway through the year…in June you had Heart Bad Animals, ROger Waters Radio Kaos, Whitney Houston Whitney, White Lion Pride, The La Bamba Soundtrack, and the Replacements Pleased to Meet me.

Going mid summer the heat was out of control Guns N Rose Appetite For Destruction, Echo and the Bunnymen self titled, The Grateful Dead in the dark, In august Def Leppard Hysteria, John Mellancamp the Lonsome Jubilee, Michael Jackson Bad, The Dirty Dancing Soundtrack, Aerosmith Permanent Vacation, New Order Substance, Midnight Oil, Diesel and Dust? Are you kidding me. Going into fall it didn’t let up, Rem Document, Pet Shop Boys Actually, Pink Floyd a Momentary Lapse of Reason, Yes Big Generator, Icehouse Man of Colours, Depeche Mode Music for the masses,

The Smiths Strangeways Here We Come, Billy Idol Vital Idol, Housemartins the People who Grinned Themselves to Death All in september. then you had INXS Kick, Bruce Springsteen Tunnel of Love, George Michael Faith and Belinda Carlisle Heaven on Earth In October and then George Harrison Cloud Nine, NWA NWA and the Posse, Rick Astley Whenver you Need Somebody to finish out the year. Get out of Here.

You could take one of those months from 1987 and it would outdo the best of the best from the top 40 album chart over the last decade it wouldn’t hold a candle. Most of these albums are among the best ever. Whether rock pop or soul. If I were to give the prize for the greatest year ever, I would go with 1984 overall but in terms of albums I think it’d be a toss up between 1987 and 1966. It was an incomparable year. Looking at the song charts for 1987 you had the first few singles of some massive albums that made an enormous impact.
