In this video I take a look at a truly weird and wonderful artifact from synthesizer history. This is the Mute Dirty Electronics Synth. And it is signed by synthpop wizard Vince Clarke himself!
This thing is a truly curious and interesting beast. Perfect for making very non-musical noise.
So where did this come from? How did I get my hands on it? Watch the video and find out!
In case you are unaware, Vince Clarke was one of the founding members of influential electronic band Depeche Mode. He left that band after one album and went on to form Yaz (Yazoo) with Alison Moyet. Later he would form Erasure with Andy Bell, and remains in that band to this day. He is regarded as the undisputed king of synthpop, and he has had an influence on thousands of electronic musicians, including myself.
Other projects he has been involved in include The Assembly and VCMG (with former Depeche Mode bandmate Martin Gore).
