a lot of these songs went thru a lot of incarnations. there are versions of this song that i think maybe i understand better than this, but this is the one i feel.

we made it up in the studio really. we started with this purdy shuffle thing, and i sang this melody really quick not realizing that if this was the melody i was gonna have to rhyme choir 18 times. by the time i did i had no idea what i was talking about.

so i tried to rewrite it a few times. i changed the words then the music, then the music back, then the words back. the closer i came to "fixing" this, the less i could feel it. the less anyone could. it was like something happened in that moment of discovery that got on the tape, but it’s like frogs. you can dissect them, but it’s going to kill them. so fuck it. who cares what’s in ’em.

there was a girl in my science class i remember dissecting a frog with in ’84. the girl wanted to get a motley crue tattoo across her back. i begged her not to. i promised her she would regret it. so she didn't do it. but she killed that frog though. she could get the tattoo now. no risk. but then, total risk. i saved christmas that day. and you know it.

NOW YOU GOT IT RIGHT ON THE MONEY
NOW YOU’RE PLAYING THROUGH YOUR AMPLIFIER
NOW YOU’RE SINGING ABOUT THAT MILK AND HONEY
NOW YOU SOUND LIKE A RAPID FIRE
GETTING LOST LIKE A SOCK IN A DRIER?
TRYING TO FIND A WAY TO RESONATE A LITTLE HIGHER?
NOW YOU’RE PREACHING TO THE SHITHOUSE CHOIR

NOW YOU’RE TALKING GO ON AHEAD WITH IT
NOW YOU’RE WORKING WITH YOUR PANTS ON FIRE
NOW YOU’RE HITTING THAT NAIL ON THE HEAD OF IT
NOW YOU’RE SPEAKING TO MY HEART’S DESIRE
YOU TALK ABOUT TANGLED UP IN BARBED WIRE?
TRYING TO FIND A WAY TO RESONATE A LITTLE HIGHER?
NOW YOU’RE PREACHING TO THE SHITHOUSE CHOIR

NOW YOU’RE GASSING AT IT, BLOW A GASKET
WHILE YOU’RE AT IT, BLOW ATTIRE
NOW YOU’RE WEAVING A COLLECTION BASKET
NOW YOU’RE BUILDING UP YOUR OWN EMPIRE
ALL YOU NEED IS A TEN AND A FIVER?
A CAR AND A KEY AND A SOBER DRIVER?
NOW YOU’RE PREACHING TO THE SHITHOUSE CHOIR
