Vaisakhi: Sikhs call for justice for murdered Hardeep Singh Nijjar at Surrey celebrations

Hundreds of thousands of people packed the streets of Surrey, B.C. on Saturday for the annual Khalsa Day Parade celebrating Vaisakhi.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the event, and for many in attendance the death of B.C. Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar was top of mind.

Nijjar was gunned down in his truck outside the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara on June 18, 2023. The killing has become a major diplomatic flashpoint in Canada-India relations.
